Freeport Project

Three-Home Build on South Street

South Street is a 3-home project under construction on a parcel of land located near the corner

of South Street and West Street in Freeport.   In 2010, the Town of Freeport offered these lots to

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland in return for back taxes owed on the property.

The completion of these three houses will double the  number of Habitat built homes in

Freeport from three to six.   Previous projects include two homes on Grant Road completed in

2003 and 2004 and the relocation and subsequent rehabilitation of a home on West Street in 2010.

We are grateful for our partnership with the Town of Freeport as we work together to construct

simple, decent and affordable housing units in their community.

The first house has been designated as a Women Build project.

The future Habitat homeowner, selected in early 2010, is Hana

Tallan. She works most Saturday's on the worksite along side our

volunteers, earning hours toward her required minimum sweat

equity contribution of 250 volunteers hours.

The two remaining homes will be sold to homebuyers who have been qualifed through

the Maine State Housing Authority's First Home Program
